John Muir PTA

About our organization

WHAT DOES THE JOHN MUIR PTA DO?

The John Muir Parent Teacher Association (PTA) supports our school by raising much needed funds for the science, music and several arts programs,  student field trips, classroom supplies and more.  As well as providing financial support to the school, the  PTA also hosts various social events for Muir families, provides parent education programs and coordinates volunteer programs.

 WHY BECOME A PTA MEMBER?

PTA membership allows you to be active in the continual improvement and enrichment of your children's education here at Muir.  PTA Membership gives you a voice in funding allocations at our school and also allows involvement in the lobbying efforts of the local, state, and national PTA organizations. PTA membership also entitles you to vote at John Muir's three PTA General Meetings.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

Start by coming to a meeting!  The John Muir PTA Executive Board meets the second Wednesday of every month. All, including non-board members are welcome.  In consideration of everyone's different schedules, we are now having morning meetings and evening meetings every second month.  Evening meetings start in October at 6:30 pm and morning meetings start in November at 8:30 am and in the Media Center.  Childcare is available at evening meetings.    (See Calendar for dates.)

WHAT GOES ON AT THOSE MEETINGS ANYWAY?

At PTA meetings, reports from the principal, the staff liaison, and PTA event chairpersons keep members informed about changes, issues, and needs at Muir.  PTA activities are planned and parent concerns are discussed. Free childcare is provided.  The PTA membership drive takes place in the Fall. Our goal is 100 percent participation!

DOES IT COST MONEY TO JOIN?

There is a $10 fee to join the Muir PTA. Most of this money stays right here at Muir, while $4.00 pays for membership in the National, California, and District PTA’s and in the 33rd District PTA Council.

I’D LOVE TO VOLUNTEER, BUT I DON'T HAVE A LOT OF EXTRA TIME

That’s okay!  Any amount of volunteering is greatly needed and appreciated both by the school staff and by the children. There are options to suit the schedule of every family. Full-time working parents might consider the Saturday morning John Muir Flea Market or a job that can be done from home or office, e.g. managing the parent e-mail database.  Please visit Volunteering and Special Events  for ways you can help your child's school.

HOW DO I JOIN?

Please complete the PTA membership envelope available in the front office and return it to your child's teacher.

We very much look forward to welcoming all the John Muir Families to our strong and vibrant PTA!
